Why SAP Business ByDesign is an Integral Part of SAP's Cloud Stategy & Portfolio

The following was adapted from a post by Lars Dalgaard, founder and CEO of SuccessFactors, a SAP company.

SAP ByDesign - Cloud solution for small-midsize businessesThe terms "cloud" and "SaaS" are gaining momemtum in the small business world almost as fast as "LOL" became common place on your cell phone.  In much the same manner, SAP (and many of their partners) foresaw this momentum, and designed SAP Business ByDesign to sit as the cornerstone of their impressive and growing cloud portfolio.  And now, nearly 36 months since the first major general release of SAP Business ByDesign, nearly 60% of new SAP SME customers are running their ERP systems on the "cloud."  Because of this, SAP and their strategic partners remain laser-focused on and committed to the cloud.  To further legitimize SAP ByDesign, the following are key points shared by Mr. Dalgaard during SAP's most recent SAPPHIRE keynote address.

#1 - SAP Business ByDesign plays a strategic role within our overall Cloud portfolio.  More than 2,500 customers have signed on with SAP Business ByDesign, and with educated consultants and developers working off of the open SDK, it truly is the right application for rapidly growing small-midsize companies, including subsidiaries of larger, enterprise SAP customers.

#2 - SAP Business ByDesign is a beautiful product.  I, as the Director of Marketing for SAP's 2012 Top Cloud Solutions Partner in North America, can say this because we use it.  And we're not alone.  Companies like Successfactors run SAP ByDesign as well as other cloud-based SAP products.  Both Navigator, and Mr. Dalgaard's team at SuccessFactors implemented all of the components including financials, project management, order processing and purchasing in just weeks, for dozens and even thousands of users.  Because we use it ourselves, and can directly attribute growth, effeciency, and improved profitability, it becomes very easy to share our success with customers and prospective customers, as well as help them achieve similar results.

#3 - Partners, like Navigator, are vital to SAP Business ByDesign's success as they work day in/out to re-sell, implement, and extend ByDesign.  They take the solution into additional industries, which may not exist on SAP's development roadmap.  Together with SAP, as well as the launch of the SAP store (very similar to Apple's iTunes store), partners can develop, test, and ultimately sell functional extensions to the SAP Business ByDesign platform - adding incredible value to our customers and the overall cloud portfolio.
