User Adoption

Do you remember when you first learned how to ride a bicycle?

Maybe it started using training wheels in the driveway. Eventually, confidence grew and you decided you wanted the training wheels off. Chances are a parent, aunt, uncle or older sibling held onto the back of the bike while you pedaled slowly along until eventually you could balance yourself and off you went! Now, if you’re like me and rarely have the chance to ride a bicycle, you may have learned that even though you don’t ride often, it always feels so natural. It is clear where the phrase “it’s like riding a bike” came from. That same concept is often found within companies. There may be a number of processes that have been in place for decades (or longer) and software systems that have been used for a very long time as well. Employees grow very comfortable with these and they often become second nature. That makes change very hard, but change is often necessary to ensure successful growth of any company.

Updating Software Within An Organization

Today, a huge part of that change is updating a software solution (or solutions) within the organization. New solutions, such as ERPs (Enterprise Resource Planning), can make processes easier through automation, workflows and generally streamlining processes. There is always a catch though. Something that often goes unsaid throughout a sales process when evaluating systems. To reap the benefits that can be had through a new solution your employees must USE THE SOLUTION AS IT IS DESIGNED. This is the absolute hardest part of implementing new software and unfortunately, from talking with numerous organizations, it is often the most overlooked aspect as well.

In order to gain the benefits that a new ERP solution can provide, employees must be in the system and using it as it is intended. There are many reasons why employees do not use new software. Some examples are “I just forgot to use it,” “I like something I can feel better (paper),” “I like the old way,” or “I don’t remember how to do that.” I’m sure these sound familiar and they are all very common reasons (or excuses). Luckily, these can be easy to overcome.

SAP Business ByDesign Layout

SAP Business ByDesign provides an easy to use interface and a number of tools to help your employees use the system to get the best return on your investment. ByDesign allows each individual employee to personalize their homepage and favorites (on what is called the “Launchpad”). By providing them with a personalized user experience, they will become more comfortable with the solution much faster and this encourages user adoption. ByDesign also incorporates learning tools such as a searchable Help Center as well as role-based how-to videos for easy reference.

It Starts With You

The success of any software implementation ultimately begins with the employees that will be using the solution. SAP Business ByDesign implemented by Navigator Business Solutions, gives you the tools to help your employees do their best work and get the most out of your new solutions, enabling your business to run smoother and prep it for growth.
